The Indian Comics Association (ICA), in collaboration with Amar Chitra Katha (ACK), has appointed actress, former Miss India, and comic book enthusiast Ruhi Singh as its brand ambassador. The announcement was made during a special panel discussion at the ACK office in Mumbai, celebrating the role of comics in the government’s Create in India initiative.
Ruhi Singh’s appointment as ICA’s brand ambassador aligns with the organization’s mission to revitalize the Indian comics industry and promote the rich cultural and educational potential of comics. Singh will represent ICA at Waves 2025, furthering its efforts to amplify the reach of Indian comics locally and globally.
“I’m honoured to be the brand ambassador of the Indian Comics Association, and I’m committed to doing my part in reviving the Indian comics industry to its golden times,” said Singh. “I believe that comics have the power to inspire and educate, and I’m excited to be a part of this movement.”
The event brought together key industry leaders, including Ajitesh Sharma, President of ICA; Preeti Vyas, President & CEO of ACK; Gayathri Chandrasekaran, Chief Editor of ACK; Savio Mascarenhas, Group Art Director of Tinkle; and Anadi Abhilash, Secretary of ICA.
Preeti Vyas emphasized the partnership’s significance: “With a history spanning over five decades, Amar Chitra Katha and Tinkle are committed to preserving and promoting India’s cultural heritage through comics. This collaboration with ICA is vital to pushing the comics industry forward and ensuring today’s young readers connect with their roots.”
The event also featured the launch of Tinkle Gold 5, the latest edition of the popular Tinkle Gold series, offering brand-new stories never seen in print. With over one lakh copies in print, the series continues to captivate readers of all ages.
Ajitesh Sharma expressed enthusiasm for Singh’s new role: “We are delighted to have Ruhi Singh on board as our brand ambassador. Her passion for comics and her commitment to promoting Indian art and culture make her an ideal fit for this role.”
The Indian Comics Association, established in 2023, is dedicated to nurturing and advancing the comics culture in India. Through collaborations, workshops, events, and publications, ICA aims to elevate Indian comics as a formidable creative force both locally and internationally.
With Ruhi Singh at the helm, ICA and ACK are poised to inspire a new generation of readers while celebrating India’s rich heritage through the vibrant medium of comics.
