Hello Author Deion! Tell us something about yourself?
My name is Deion Campbell and I was born on October 28TH 1993. I am best known as King Legend 757 online as a influential photographer. I have taken photos of many celebrities and events such as weddings, parties, birthdays and more. I also in my free time have always been gifted with the ability to write. I wrote my first book in 2017 about my life and had planned to write a sequel to the book when I became a senior citizen but I was hit by Covid 19 and ended up on a Ventilator for 12 days which inspired me to write my latest book about my experience.
Your book, “Ventilator : A Covid-19 Survivor Story” was published recently. To begin with, could you tell those who don’t know much about the book?
Ventilator is about my experience first hand with COVID-19. I go into deep detail of the things my body was feeling and the thoughts that were going through my head. In my latest book the reader will be able to see how vicious this virus can be and hopefully understand the serious behind the global pandemic that has changed the world. I titled the book Ventilator because I literally learned the hard way what a ventilator actually was, prior to being hospitalized I had no clue.
What inspired your debut?
I would say the thing that inspired me to write my latest book the most was the way I observed society behavior patterns towards the pandemic. People were out partying and treating the virus as if it was a joke. People were actually calling the virus that almost took my life fake. Also at the time people didn’t think young people could catch the virus. I believe with the second chance of life I was given that I had a duty to inform people of the truth. The virus is real and young people aren’t exempt.
What is your process of writing a book?
My writing process of writing a book has always been the secret sauce of being a writer who can keep the reader wanting more. Making my books hard to put down has always been a priority for me. I paint pictures with my words to give a vivid description that the reader can see in their mind. Almost like watching a movie but instead of looking at a screen, your reading text. I like to have the reader feel as if they know me personally and are having a conversation with me. I find this works well in both fiction and non-fiction books. People like reading stuff they feel they can relate to.
What book are you planning to write next?
I normally keep my projects secret, but for the sake of the interview I will let you guys in on a little secret. I was actually working on a Book Series titled the life I chose. It was to be a fiction spin off to my book I wrote about my life titled “Who Am I.” Basically the idea will be a made up of intense stories about the different professions people chose and how their lives all still have struggles because they are still human. The concept can be worked for unlimited walks of life. That’s all i can tell you about right now. The rest is a secret!
Finally, what advice do you have for aspiring authors?
The best advice I can give someone is to write from your heart and let your mind focus on the grammar. When I write I find it best to create a timeline of events you want to talk about and then one by one put it down on paper or type it in your word document. I also don’t focus to much on chapter length. Focus only on feeling the energy you are translating to the reader. Your only focus should be toward the readers perception. Create vivid details and always think about the law of emotion. The secret to keeping your reader hooked on your book is creating an emotional attachment to it. This way they think about it even when they aren’t reading it.
