Reading is a beautiful way to enjoy your free time and learn new things. It offers a doorway to new worlds, ideas, and experiences. However, just like writers experience writer’s block, many readers also find themselves in a slump. When a reader is unable to pick up a book or read a book half-heartedly, it is called reader’s block. Reader’s block can be frustrating for those who love reading. Here are some of the ways to overcome reader’s block:

    Set realistic goals

Sometimes the pressure of finishing a particular number of books can be overwhelming. Instead of setting big reading goals, start with small and easy goals. For example, reading 30 pages a day or reading 3-4 novels a month. With realistic goals, a reader feels no pressure.

    Try different genres

Reading the same genres often puts readers into a long slump because not all the books are masterpieces. It is better to always experiment with genres—be it fantasy, mythology, romance, thriller, non-fiction, poetry, or graphic novels.

    Read short stories or essays

Short stories and essays are less intimidating than full-length novels, plus it saves a lot of time. If you think your reading slump is slowing you down, it is best to pick up the best short stories and essays. One can easily finish them in a day or two max, so the feeling of accomplishment is the icing on the cake.
