It came as a big shock for the Indian music industry and all the ghazal lovers as the legendary singer Pankaj Udhas passed away on Monday after a prolonged illness. The late singer’s family confirmed that he passed away on Monday at 11 a.m. at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital.
“With a heavy heart, we are saddened to inform you of the sad demise of Padmashri Pankaj Udhas on 26th February 2024 due to a prolonged illness,” Pankaj Udhas’s daughter Nayaab shared a statement on her Instagram handle.
The legendary singer was known for songs like ‘Jeeye Toh Jeeye Kaise’, ‘Chupke Chupke’, ‘Chitti Aayi Hai’, ‘Chandi Jaisa Rang’, ‘Ahista’, and many more. Ghazal maestro Pankaj Udhas made a place in the hearts of all those who love listening to soothing songs and ghazals, and his demise has shocked the whole industry and his followers.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his heart to the loss as he tweeted, “We mourn the loss of Pankaj Udhas Ji, whose singing conveyed a range of emotions and whose Ghazals spoke directly to the soul. He was a beacon of Indian music, whose melodies transcended generations. I recall my various interactions with him over the years.
