It is the birthday of Indian cinema’s Shahenshah Amitabh Bachchan today, and we wish him a lot of good health to the superstar. The legendary actor has been entertaining the audience for over five decades with his powerful performances and larger-than-life persona. The 81-year-old superstar is also called an angry young man, thanks to the duo writers Salim-Javed. However, there are times when the actor Amitabh Bachchan has left the superstar behind and delivered some truly exceptional performances.
Here are three such movies:-
1. Anand (1971) – In Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s classic movie, Amitabh Bachchan played the role of Dr. Bhaskar Banerjee, a young doctor who is too serious about his profession. However, he befriends a terminally ill patient named Anand (played by Rajesh Khanna). Though the movie is titled after the character of Anand, Amitabh Bachchan’s portrayal of the compassionate doctor was unforgettable.
2. Pink (2016) – Directed by Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury, Amitabh Bachchan played the role of a retired lawyer named Deepak Sehgal, who takes the case of three young women as they were taken advantage of by some young men. Pink is another film where the actor in him left the superstar way behind.
3. Black (2005) – In the Sanjay Leela Bhansali film, the superstar played the role of Debraj Sahai, a teacher who helps a blind and deaf girl named Michelle, who is played by Rani Mukherjee. Amitabh Bachchan’s nuanced and powerful portrayal of the complex character earned him several awards and a lot of critical acclaim.
