Through the story of Harmony, the novel’s protagonist, Justice hopes to inspire readers to embrace their own stories, no matter how different they may feel. Her writing goes beyond storytelling—it’s a movement of self-love and empowerment, encouraging people to redefine beauty on their own terms. In this interview, Justice shares her inspiration, the challenges and rewards of writing True Beauty, and what’s next for her as an author.
HELLO JUSTICE NODD, WELCOME TO WORLDAUTHORS.ORG! CAN YOU TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT AND WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO BECOME A WRITER?
I was inspired because since I could remember I have always been different. When I would go into the stores or public place little kids and even adults would always stare at me and even though I was used to it I always wondered to myself when people look at me what are they really saying in their heads, so my inspiration came one day when I was expressing my frustrations of being different and wanting to live a normal life to my mother. My mom would always tell me that I was special and that one day I would inspire millions of people with my story, I did not understand what she meant when she said that until I we wrote the book “True Beauty”
YOUR BOOK TRUE BEAUTY: INSPIRED BY A BURN SURVIVOR IS DEEPLY PERSONAL. WHAT WAS THE MOST CHALLENGING AND REWARDING PART OF WRITING IT?
I think the most rewarding part about this book is when someone walk up to me and say I read your book, and now I feel beautiful. I never knew how many people can be inspired just by reading a book. A girl refused to wear skirts or anything that would show her legs because she had a rare skin disease. She told me that after she read my book, she was able to rare shorts that is the most rewarding part of it all. The most challenging part is trying to get the message out to people, it was easy to get it out to my hometown, but it’s challenging when you are so small with such a small voice.

HOW DID YOUR OWN EXPERIENCES SHAPE THE CHARACTER OF HARMONY, AND IN WHAT WAYS DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN HER JOURNEY?
Harmony is this shy young lady with a supportive loving family. Harmony love people and only see the good and rarely see the bad in people like me. I see a lot of myself in Harmony. Harmony has a lot of growing to do through out her series of book and I want to take the reader on different rides and different sides of her and her family. There is so much to Harmony, so many emotions and creativity that I think readers will enjoy. My experience inspired the characters and inspired the main character, Harmony.
YOU CO-WROTE THIS BOOK WITH YOUR MOTHER. WHAT WAS THAT COLLABORATION LIKE, AND HOW DID IT IMPACT YOUR STORYTELLING?
My mother is a genius, there is nothing that she cannot do. She knows exactly how to help me articulate what I’m saying without taking away the message. The collaboration was amazing, and it was done at a very vulnerable for the both of us. Me and my mother want to bring a fun, but…
SELF-LOVE AND RESILIENCE ARE CENTRAL THEMES IN YOUR BOOK. WHAT MESSAGE DO YOU HOPE READERS TAKE AWAY FROM HARMONY’S STORY?
There are so many ways to look within this book I think this book grasp anyone in any culture regardless of religion, ethnicity, race, or gender. It is relevant to this world today and I hope that any individual that read this book take something from it, it’s more than just a book about a girl. It’s a book about friendship, love, family, support, hope, joy, and resilience, Harmony showcased all these different attributes even in the mist of adversity, so I want people to see way more than just a book. It’s a short book, but its powerful.
MANY PEOPLE STRUGGLE WITH SELF-ACCEPTANCE. WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE WHO FEELS DIFFERENT OR OUT OF PLACE?
Everyone at some point will feel out of place in their life. The world is full of vanity, and the world will always give false expectations of what is acceptance. Self-acceptance starts with you. The key to life is knowing that if you have people around you that truly love you and support you that’s all that matter. You don’t need no one to accept you accept you, you are a true beauty look within your heart be the best version of yourself. Treat people the way you want to be treated with respect and dignity and that’s self-acceptance.

YOU’VE MENTIONED A POSSIBLE SEQUEL AND HAVE ALSO WRITTEN VAMPIRE DAD. CAN YOU SHARE ANY DETAILS ABOUT WHAT’S NEXT FOR YOU AS AN AUTHOR?
Yes, a sequel to True Beauty is coming with a twist that me and my mom think the readers will enjoy. Vampire Dad is also an awesome book that is out now, and I think people is like what is Vampire Dad and where is this coming from True Beauty to Vampire Dad. Well Vampire Dad is a story about resilience, and it is an amazing story about a father who is trying to make it home to his family. Harmony falls into a deep sleep because she misses her father because he is always working on the road like my father and because she never gets to see or speak to him in the daytime and only talks to him at night, she dreams that he is a Vampire. This book will take you on a roller coaster of what Vampire Dad goes through as he is trying to get home to his family. We also have another book that will come out later called Little Ladybug.
IF YOU COULD GO BACK AND GIVE YOUR YOUNGER SELF ONE PIECE OF ADVICE, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
To never give up no matter what it looks like I can do anything if I never give up.
